Mickey Mouse Fan Club

I had two celebrations coming, so, another 2-in-1 cake.

One is Hasif's birthday and another is Zarif's UIA's acceptance to UIA's Asasi Program. Alhamdulliah... These two events were celebrated at my MIL's last weekend.

Together with Mother's Day celebration.

look at the Mickey Mouse... he looks like an angry mouse!

Ben 10 Mania!

Today is Hasif's Birthday!

I baked a chocolate cake with Ben 10 theme for him to celebrate with his friends and teachers at kindergarten. My first big cake decorated with edible image!

picture taken without the colorful candies

picture taken after decorated with colorful candies... I like it!
looks more cheerful & suitable for little children

for certain reason, Hasif received a lot of Ben 10-themed presents this year...
sharpeners, Ben 10 cards, pencils and Wii CD games....
mostly from his brothers...

last but not least, Ben 10-themed fancy cookies for Hasif's friends,
my first attempt too.... (thanks to my dear SIL for the recipe :))

Happy Birthday, my darling Hasif...

Force 2 SSP

I brought this chocolatey chocolate moist cake to a reunion event at Azah's house. Azah is my classmate during high school.

I think next time I will put less roses on the cake.... this is too crowded...

My little beauty at the event....

The cake was put on a 'pedestal'! Err, I mean, the cake stand... thanks Azah! I love Azah's utensils. They are sooooo beautiful.....

(p/s: see the spaghetti & meat sauce? That was from me too... hehe)

I had a jolly good time meeting my old & treasured friends. And eating all those good food.

Must do this again....

Chocolate Banana Cake

This is a kinda late post.

Dalila's birthday is on early March and she celebrated it 3 times last month. The first was with her classmates at school, the second one was with her cousin and granddad at my parents house, and this cake is for the event celebrated together with her dad and elder brother, Zarif; at my in-laws house.

However, for the brother, March is not his birthday month. He just got his SPM results and passed with flying colours, Alhamdulillah...

As usual, 3-in-1 cake!

This cake is quite complicated to make; took me many, many hours in the kitchen. In the end, I was too tired to decorate it and just wrote their names on the cake :).

The names are in the order of seniority...:)

Picture of the birthday girl cutting the precious cake, helped by mom...:).
Pity, I didn't snap the pictures after it was cut; the 3-layered banana looked sooo beautiful..

Aaaargh! Need to improve on my handwriting!

Happy Belated Birthday, my lovely girl and other half.

Congratulations, my handsome boy.

Sorry Secret Recipe. I have found your secret...teee heee!

Happy Birthday, Ibu

No, this is not for my mum. Though I call my mum as 'ibu', so far I haven't got the chance to bake and decorate a birthday cake for her. Somebody has already beat me to it, or there were enough food stuff already or the event/time is not right for a 'birthday cake'.

These pictures are the ones that I have been waiting from Haziq, since last month. I didn't get the chance to take the pictures on that day. The cupcakes were whisked away while the reliable, simple, digital camera was 'away'.

But, it turned out to be okay, since these pics were taken by somebody else, and this somebody else used the err, whatchamacallit, errk, expensive SLR camera (sorry, this 'camera' topic is alien to me, hope this is the correct term, or at least the readers can understand what I mean), it gives a fresh view/perspective compared to those that I usually presented.

See it for yourself...

These cupcakes were ordered by Haziq's friend for her, who else, mum.

Hope the mum likes it. She's one lucky mum.

English Bouquet For Anita

It's been a long time that I haven't met Anita and her family. Due to our busy schedules, it's quite difficult to set a date to meet, not to mention a date including our families too.

We found it very challenging to meet, postponing several times, until her mother got sick, had a knee operation, and therefore was 'grounded'.

That did it.

So, during the recent Maulidur Rasul holiday, at last, my family and I (including my parents) got to visit Anita and her family at Shah Alam.

these are the cupcakes that I brought for the family

my current favourite design, English Bouquet

hope Anita & family like them.

Get well soon, Makcik Maznah! Miss your marvellous pineapple tarts and kuih bakar!

So glad we made it... really great to meet them all.

Happy 22nd Birthday Kamil!

I would like to thank my dear sister, Inoi, for giving me the chance to work on this project.

A very interesting project - requested by Azlin, her childhood friend.

This is the first time I did a non-flowery on un-girlish (is there such word?) theme. The theme is 'GILA-GILA' and the cupcakes were for a man. Men-themed cakes are sooo limited!

I racked my brains to fulfill this theme, with help from my darling Dalilah. Cupcakes are supposed to be sweet and refreshing and nice and beautiful. I feel it's sacriligious to put/design anything hideous on them that make people feel 'choked' to eat them. What am I going to put/draw on those cakes?

Soooo, here's the results!!

See the design on top right and bottom left cupcakes? That was Inoi's idea.
She suggested 4 cupcakes for this design but I didn't have the heart to put too many cupcakes with this design.... ugh!

hope the rest of the hand-drawn designs are recognizable...

Hope I didn't disappoint Azlin and fervently hope that Kamil likes them! Happy Birthday Kamil!

Interesting Recipe Book

Commercial Break!

I have no baking project to report today, but in a mood to post something here. Haziq is supposed to mail me the pictures of my latest project, as all the said pictures reside in his friend's camera. Unfortunately, he is already in Melaka now.

"How come the pictures are not in YOUR camera?" you might ask.

Well.... it's a long story... anyway, truthfully, I'm quite pissed off, but I hope to be able to post those pictures in my next post. It was an interesting project and I put quite an effort to execute it. And am quite satisfied with the results.

Enough of baking projects.

See the picture of Chef's Sabri recipe book above? He is quite a versatile Chef and you will love his book. The layout is very nice and he gives very good tips, especially for beginners. So glad that at last I finished my third doll cake.

Been working on it for a week starting with the fondant alphabets and fondant upper gown.

However, when I finished, it looked so...so... PURPLE!

Waaaa!

purple hair, purple gown, purple hair ribbon, purple flowers and purple alphabets

left only with a fair, beige skin and gold accessories

and...last but not least.... golden-colored cake board!

Hope both of you like it... Happy Birthday Diana & Syira!

January Birthdays

These are some of the baking projects for January birthdays.

Somehow this month I crave for brownies. Therefore, instead of chocolate cakes, I opted for brownies, one with walnut and the other without brownies.

this big one was for my office

walnut-brownies-in-paper-cups for my darling sister, the 'baby' of the family

I love seeing people enjoying my cakes/ brownies!

Happy Birthday to all January girls & boys who read this post!

Fondant cake for Jannah

I'm so excited!

This is my second fondant cake, and it turned out fabulous! Ahem... if I may say so... *smile*.

I really had a great time planning and preparing it. Had the roses done a week earlier with help from my dear SIL, who is now quite an expert on it.

The cake was for my cousin Jannah's wedding solemnization ceremony last weekend. Wish her all the best and pray that Allah will bless her with happiness and barakah in this marriage (and a great number of children too! *smile*).

Thanks for cousin Maya too for having faith in me...

isn't she's a beauty? pink colour... my favourite colour too...

Frankly, there are several details that I need to improve *sigh*. But I'm not going to reveal it now! For now, I want to bask in this feeling of achievement!

God Bless You, Son

Phew, it's been ages that I last updated this blog. This blog has been covered with webs and I need to a lot of cleaning up before I can post this entry. I have a lot of updates to do, but for now I am thankful enough to be able to update this entry with another one of my baking projects. A chocolate moist cake with chocolate buttercream for Zarif and friends. I brought this during one of my visits to his school during the SPM examination.

simple, yet delicious

Save the Orang Utan!

Long time no update... My home PC (desktop) broke down. Now awaiting repair... huhuhu...

So, since I got this only chance to use my dear other half's laptop, these are the only pictures (saved at this laptop) that I found interesting enough to put up...

These are two of the orang utans found at Pulau Orang Utan at Bukit Merah Lake Town Resort, where the family vacationed some time ago....hahaha!
Save the Orang Utan!!!
p/s: no baking projects this time, all projects are adjourned...

Nana's Wedding Part II

It 's no secret to the family that Nana's dream was to have a 3-tiered cake for her wedding. She had been talking about it for ages and ages.

This young auntie of hers (I am not THAT ole', mind you...hehehe!) offered to make this fervent wish possible. With most trepidation and suspense, this young auntie baked, decorated and stacked the cakes. Fortunately, this young auntie has some assistance from little helpers and a resident engineer who calculated, plan and helped executing the stacking the 2 big cakes on 8 thin pillars, without any risks (or minimal risk) of the cakes tumbling down.

Phew! I'm glad that it was a success, Alhamdulillah.

Thanks Nana, for trusting this young auntie...

Graduation Day!

To my son, Zarif, who has just graduated from high school, a graduation poem:

Graduation Day is the climax of a dream.
A parental dream that began when a child is born,
And their hope come true it would seem,
A triumph held after periods of forlorn,
A feeling of pride and euphoria years away
For a daughter or son - Graduation Day.

It is a peak of success for the graduate,
Not only for the graduate but parents too.
A joyful event after many years they had to wait,
Realizing the glorious thrill of a dream come true,
A genuine smile accompanied by a deep sigh,
Often a handkerchief in hand as the class goes by.
Graduation is a deserving, hard earned goal
With mortarboard and gown as foretold,
A gratifying service of the mind and soul

In a simple and beautiful sheepskin told
That the graduate fulfilled the educational rule.
At last, for the mother and father,
a dream come true.

Graduation Day!
Joseph T. Renaldi

The above special cake was for Zarif on his Graduation Day 06112009, to be shared with his friends. He will be sitting for his SPM examination starting tomorrow. Wish you best of luck, my dear! My prayers are always with you....

Nana's Wedding - Part I

Dear Nana,

As you embark your new life as a wife, I wish you happiness always as Mrs Wan Adlan. May there'll be lots of little ones ( little Wans?) to grace your life and may Allah's guidance be with you along the way... always...

Lots of Luv,
Auntie Zura

Note: The fondant cake above was for Nana's 'hantaran balasan' during the Nikah ceremony yesterday. I would like to thank my SIL and my sifu/ friend for the guidance and assistance to make this fondant cake possible.
